MY GIFT TO YOU! SCREENTIME RULES THAT WORK CHEATSHEET.
BRING CONTROL TO THE CHAOS!

Let’s admit it. We never grew up with an iPhone, Facebook, Snapchat, and Cookies following us around the internet. Hell, some of us only used dial-up in adulthood!
We need to take a hard look at how we use technology.
By creating a fear around screen time, bad habits are forming and we give power to something that requires education, understanding, and engagement to truly empower our kids.

My journey to Infinite Screentime is filled with tears too! A few summers ago, I had a blow-out fight with my ten-year-old son, I was crying on the bathroom floor, whispering to my husband on the phone, “I don’t know how much longer I can do this.”

During the fight, my son had hurled his iPad across the room and nearly knocked me out. We had SO MANY RULES about screen time. And because of these strict rules, screentime was a THING OF POWER.

And from the moment my son (and my girls) would wake up, the high stakes negotiations would start. Our words with each other started and ended with the iPad. From the moment they woke up, it was “When can I get on?”

I realized that my relationship with my kids was suffering because of the way I was managing technology in our home.

In fact, I was sending a more dangerous message….

Technology is more powerful than you!

So the following summer I tried something different. Rather than lay down the law, I told him and his sisters they were allowed unlimited screentime, as long as they made good choices. What happened next was bizarre. They needed it MUCH less. Wanna learn more about how I did it?

WE HAVE INFINITE SCREENTIME.

The power is back in the kids’ hands.

We focus on the choices.

We are preparing them for this new reality.

Our goal is to raise screen-smart kids by setting the goal for unlimited access to technology. We believe in unlimited screentime. Actually, we believe in more than that… We believe in *infinite*. We need to provide safe, fun, and exploratory tech havens in age appropriate doses so our kids can grow up to be functioning adults in control of tech and not visa versa. ISM (Infinite Screentime Movement) wants to model, mold, and teach screentime awareness from a young age so that they can understand that:

Everyone has different screentime tolerance levels.

Technology is an enabler for good and bad.

Presence and connection IRL leads to positive media choices.

Behind all technology is a human. (for now).

All media messages are constructed and shape a viewpoint of the world. Media literacy is critical.

Technology is awesome. It has changed the world, and it offers our kids endless possibilities.

Well, if you found me here, you’re probably seeking answers for the screentime dilemma just like me. I’m a well-meaning, trying-my-best, doing-the-research, but figuring-out-my-own-path momma who is tired of the conflicting messages around screentime. I’m also a retired video game executive whose understands the addictive nature of technology, but also loves to celebrate the joy of fun!

In fact, I’m so imperfect that I need this community to give me courage for my cause. I am the Founder and President of Infinite Screentime, a movement dedicated to dispelling the negative connotations of screentime. Infinite Screentime is not about having all the answers. It’s about being brave enough to ask the questions. As a generation of parents who did not grow up with this tech, we have no idea where it will lead us, but we must prepare out children for what is to come.

We have a great group of parents & experts in our Facebook group, come see what we are talking about.

I love talking to people. Your stories about screentime are fascinating to me. It fuels my curiosity and puts my brain cells into overdrive. It feels like we are adventuring into uncharted territories together like frontiersman, figuring out the rules of the west. OK, maybe that is a little dramatic, but honestly I bring this tireless inquiry and passion to all of my events.

Whether it’s a vigorous round table discussion, small training, an intimate parent’s group, large corporate lecture, or back to school night, each event gets my undivided attention. I have spoken at schools, corporations, and multi-day workshops around social media, screentime society, and video game addiction

I love Arcadia’s approach of letting the child drive the choices so that they can be more responsible screentime users. And best part is that I am learning more about technology too!
